this started off slow and then the plot took off and i didn’t want to put this down. i really enjoyed the back and forth between past and present, i think that was the perfect way to tell this story. it gave it a mystery kind of edge which was very enjoyable. the characters and plot were all well developed and even though there are some unanswered questions by time the books ends i still felt satisfied.

Intriguing plot and morally complex characters. This book explores the dark depths a mother will go for her child's happiness. This book's world was fascinating and dire, yet there was hope throughout. Enjoyed and would recommend.

2.5 stars. I loved the concept of this book but it fell flat in so many ways. Bookeaters are supposedly better than humans but they can’t use their imagination and their only benefit is that they don’t get cold, run fast, and can see in the dark? They don’t even live longer than humans and if they eat too many books from different genres their brains get slow. The chapters that were held in the past were great, loved them, but the present day chapters (especially ones focused on Ramsay) put me to sleep. Hence the 2.5 stars, it was good half the time.

I liked the idea behind it but it felt like the story was dragging and I didn’t like the main character either, I definitely couldn’t relate to her at all.

I loved the story but for some reason the font in this edition is really small, so not recommended if your eyes aren't great or you're intending to read in dingy conditions.
