Confusing to start with because of the nonlinear timeline but God does it reward you when you start connecting the timeline. Though there’s stuff about homophobia and transphobia, it doesn’t pedal it as the center. There’s so much more and you honestly have to detach from it all to get to what this story is: people connected like vines and weeds around each other. What a fun book.

This is the second book I've read by Palahniuk. I read Fight Club years ago and forgot how I liked Palahniuk’s prose. The plot was wild and kind of gross at times, but I liked the nonlinear story-telling and the plot twists.

I know people think Guts from Haunted is the most messed up thing Palahniuk has written but from what I’ve read of his work this is actually the most disturbing.

The best way I can summarize this and many other of his books ; sometimes delightfully absurd, and often disgusting in a way that is just for the sake of it - all of which may be great for the right reader. 
However, I can't say I'd ever recommend it to anyone, because large chunks of it are horrifically transphobic.

"Find what you're afraid of most, and go live there."
I really deeply enjoyed listening to this book. It is infused with satire, which makes the harsh realities that it deals with almost comical, but that is also what makes them appear so real.
