The main character was pushy and annoying but did not take away from the book. I may read the author again.
I really enjoyed starting another series based in New Zealand, this one by an American author. Good story with lots of interesting Māori details!
The setting in New Zealand and learning a little about Māori culture and issues with white Kiwis is interesting, but didn’t love the character development and the murder investigation got less interesting as the book went along.

The story that follows is a wonderful mystery, filled with dead bodies, physical attacks, and exposing the reader to the fascinating Māori culture. This story is well written, and filled with authentic information that is dispersed just enough to educate us, without boring us. Wonderful book.
