This was... fine. For like 7/8 of the book I really enjoyed it but then it kicked into overdrive and I get what he was going for but I preferred the slow burn. It sort of felt like the final season of Game of Thrones - it made sense as a final destination but the choices didn't make sense and weren't given enough time to make sense. Still, a fun ride and creepy to think about.

To be honest, I was a little disappointed. People said it was so scary they couldn’t sleep. To me it wasn’t scary, it was pretty absurd. And that’s exactly what I like about it. But the writing felt really unhinged to me. Sometimes it was super simple and easy to read, other times it was lackluster and pretentious.

I read it in Dutch, but with the ‘American ending’. So I guess that must be te improved version. Even though I liked the idea of it, the execution wasn’t really there. Still there was enough potential for me to enjoy it.

When I first finished this book I only gave 2 stars. However as time has gone on and I have thought about the main themes of this book, as well as the underlying themes it has definitely earned more star power. I would rate this a 3.5. I definitely got spooked by reading this, and as I delved deeper into the book I couldn't put it down. You can definitely tell it was originally not written in English, but more often than not I didn't notice it all the time. The ending really surprised me, it wasn't some huge twist but it was good never the less. If you like slow burn Steven King, then this would be a book for you.
