Our first book from Ax's point of view. I found this very annoying at the beginning, but was enjoying the little journal entries that were included. Eventually I got into the flow or the author also was getting annoyed and switched up the writing because I was enjoying the book by the end.

Finally getting to see things from Ax's POV. It's nice to see him as the serious character he can be, instead of him only ever really popping up to do silly things as he tries to disguise himself as a human. We also learn why the Andalites are so set on being the ones to defeat the Yeerks.

Finally some of the bigger picture starts to come in. This one is really interesting, finally getting the pov of a character who none of the others really understand very well, and seeing the things he keeps to himself.

It's hard to see Ax grow towards the Animorphs in this book given what happens towards the end of the series.
