I can't take Theseus's dull personality or his high-and-mighty disdain for women-led societies. I don't care that this book is old af or that Theseus's attitude towards women is reflective of Ancient Greek values. Clearly Renault had no qualms with anachronism because the LGBT+ people are presented in quite a positive light (which is not reflective of Ancient Greece, btw), so idk why people think the sexism is "okay" because it's "accurate", especially when it serves seemingly no purpose and Renault seems to have otherwise been quite progressive for her time. I've also read some reviews and apparently, Theseus does not learn his lesson, he's just a sexist a-hole for the whole book, and I don't wanna engage with that.
