Much much better than the first book (I need to change the rating there).
Lila is finally a likeable character, strong, fierce but less annoying than in the first book.
The need characters introduced here - and especially Alucard - are great additions and add depth to the book. The prince is the same extremely lovable person but with a depth that was not there before - thanks to the events at the end of Book 1.
Kell is a bit of a pill especially at the beginning.
The story itself is a bit inexistent really, a transition from the events of book 1 to the events of book 3 really and it focuses on the characters, fleshing them out. Successfully too.
I wished the tournament was developed more and better, adding details and interest. I wished for a deeper knowledge of the other reigns in Red London's world. I feel like this book could have been so much better but it is a very good book and, for me, a much better experience than book 1. Now I need t hold on tight a couple of days for book 3!

Though the tournament was interesting, it felt too much of a build up to the third book. The things layed out interesting, especially the ending has me wanting to read the next book. Most things in the book feel rushed yet slow at the same time, hard to explain really. Still enjoyed it immensely.

This almost felt more like a debut into the series than a sequel as we go through the process of learning the magic and we have new characters highlighted with new backgrounds. I think there is a lot more character development here as the story is more about the people than the plot (which sort of moves slowly through the background). I like the pacing of this better than the first, it wasn't as rushed since there wasn't an impending doom that needed vanquishing (that the characters know of).
I was ambivalent about this story at the end of the first and almost didn't pick up the second, but I think this is a step up in the series and I'm excited for the third.
also the narration is better than the first.

Expectativa: 3,5⭐️
