This is the story of a middle school musical production and all of the drama that comes with navigating middle school relationships. I read this book because I saw it on the banned and challenged books list. The book centers around a hetero girl character but there is a gay boy character, a bisexual boy character and another possible bisexual boy. The story was really cute. It’s sad that adults try to block kids from reading books like this since some children could really feel represented and affirmed.

Warm and honest graphic novel about friendships, relationships, and the confusing time that is middle school, with a drama-flair. Where was this when *I* was a drama student?

I don't usually read middle grade so I didn't love this or anything but it was a fun quick read.

As someone who has been involved with theatre since the age of 6, who grew up in school drama clubs and communities theatres, who is making a career in theatre, particularly with middle and high school age students, I have very high standards when it comes to their depiction in novels. So often, novels are based on how authors THINK these programs work, plots hinging on details that are skewed, rare, or just plain wrong.

But DRAMA was different. DRAMA got it right. I could tell right off that Telgemeier had the background -- she knew how it worked, and I loved the way she wrote the stage crew dynamic, and that she chose to focus on them rather than the leading actors.

The junior high drama (talking angst now, rather than theatre) was handled realistically and accurately, and while she did fall a little too readily into the "all guys in theatre turn out to be gay" stereotype for my liking, the rest of it was so well done that I'll look past it.

A truly lovely graphic novel.

I liked it so much that I read it under an hour, but the ending got me kinda triggered lmao

I really enjoyed this graphic novel which I read with my sister as part of our Banned Books feature. It was so easy to read and I enjoyed that it had diverse characters within the story. I really don't think this book should be banned at all. It has homosexual characters, but the content really isn't sexually explicit at all!
