The latest installment of the Guardian Interviews does not disappoint. I was pleased to see the return of Ivana, whom I sorely missed in the second book. Team Ivana!!

The story starts off simply: there is a new danger in El Paso (hey, we still have some humidity here as well as zombies!) along with a new (maybe) ally: the ghoul. I must admit I was a little wary of the introduction of this new creature, but Clary was able to seamlessly bring in the new creature into the Regulators' universe. I was happy to see the return of a vampire, as I loved the vampires in the last novel. Additionally, we get to see Miriam's true power and *gasp* the true origin of the zombies which is quite poignant.

I felt the strongest point was the relationship Jaxon has with the other characters (particularly with Skie and Ivanna)and the consequent character development we see. Up until now, we've seen Jaxon (and the rest of the Regulators) as larger-than life, strong, nearly unstoppable individuals. However, this novel changes that idea quickly. The scenes between Ivana and Skie brought me on the verge of tears several times...all right, I'll admit it: the scenes with Skie had me quietly sobbing. Oddly enough, these incredibly touching scenes do not weaken Jaxon. On the contrary, Clary's unique ability to grant the character with emotions allows the reader to see Jaxon and the rest of the characters as a much more well-rounded individuals and not simply as an emotionless killing machines. This novels points out we are dealing with real people with real faults, feelings and emotions.

In short, I believe this book is a worthy successor to the other two novels. I can't wait to see if Clary's got anything else in store for us
