Second read 21/10/2010 :
as good as the first time
------------------------------------------

First read:
Wow! now that's what I call a five-stars action packed book! there is not even a page that bored me. I just wanted to keep reading because it is that amazing.

I'm really glad I read this book because it brought me out of my reading slump.
It is been ages since the last time I read a book with a main character that is not annoying. I actually love the main character Penryn. Dee and Dum remind me of Fred and George alot.

UGH! I do not know what else to say except:
1-Susan Ee is an amazing writer that has a great imagination
2-This book need to be turned into a movie

Second time around: Did audiobooks this time and I did not like the narrator. She sounded too young for this story to be about falling in love with an archangel during an apocalypse.

----

I enjoyed the story and the interesting horrors of it. However, the book did upset me a bit but only because I read angel books because I like angel wings. Getting to the end of the book and seeing him not get his own wings back was frustrating to say the least.

I have to admit I was a little surprised that I liked it so much. I wasn't quite sure what to expect but it turned out to be a great read and I'm already looking forward to book 2. I really like Penryn because she has this mixture of kick-ass heroine and vulnerability without being unbelievable. How she deals with her mothers illness and taking care of her sister with her guilt of wishing to get away from that responsibility makes her very likable and human without being whiny.

The only thing I didn't like so much is that it is pretty brutal for being a young adult book. Seems to be the trend right now but is in my opinion unnecessary. Definitely looking forward to book 2

The first half of the book was okay...the last 1/3 of the book, I couldn't put it down!

This book follows Penryn who is in the angel apocalypse. After her disabled sister is kidnapped by angels, she teams up with a fallen angel - the enemy - in order to find her sister and get her back.

I would say for the most part I did like this book. The plot was gripping enough to stay interested in what was going on. The story was interesting to say the least and did hold my attention.

Aside from that though I more so found this one to just be okay.

The characters were bland overall. Penryn as a protagonist more so read as a knockoff Katniss Everdeen with no personality. She was more one dimensional as a character so it was hard to care about her all that much.

Along with that, it felt like every other female character we were introduced to in this book was automatically an enemy to Penryn and usually after the love interest Rafe to some capacity. It just felt like every other female character was villianized in some way. Maybe that changes in book 2 but I don’t know.

The romance was kind of lacklustre. I’m not sure if it was trying to go to the love triangle vibe between Rafe and Obi but I could totally be wrong on that one. Enemies to lovers is very hit or miss with me and this is one of those times it unfortunately missed the mark. It’s not the worst in the sense that I could see the characters liked or at least respected one another but sorry to say I don’t like seeing the characters kiss and then for the love interest to say he still doesn’t like her afterwards. I also couldn’t completely see any shift with Penryn’s feelings but maybe she’s just dealing with a lot so that could be it. While we somewhat have an omission of feelings at the end of the book, I have a feeling that Rafe will just go back on all of that come book 2 but maybe I’m wrong.

Overall this was okay. I haven’t decided whether or not I’ll be picking up the sequel but I guess time will tell.

I really enjoyed this series. The main character was wonderful, intelligent, struggling, silly... the story was also a lot off fun. This was a very different take on angels which I also loved. Warning-pretty violent
