Alcide is one manbaby who thinks thinks Sookies life should revolve around him and that’s why I don’t like him. He was a good character in the previous parts of the series but now he’s just annoying.
Same goes for Bill.
Eric is hands down the best character in this.
And have to add that I love Sookie’s and Pam’s friendship

Dead as a Doornail
4 Stars

In the aftermath of the witch war, Sookie Stackhouse only wants to live a quiet life. Unfortunately, this is not to be as someone is using the local shifter population in Bon Temps for target practice and Sookie's brother, Jason, the newest member of the Were-Panther community is the prime suspect. Added to this is the arrival of a menacing vampire from out of town and a struggle for pack leadership amongst the Werewolves. Poor Sookie has her hands full!

Dead to the World is a hard act to follow, but Harris does an admirable job in Dead as a Doornail.

Let's start with the plot.

Although there are three storylines that develop independently, each demonstrates the more negative aspects of the various supernatural groups, which have, until now, been presented in a generally positive light. The sniper mystery emphasizes the disastrous consequences of shifter behavior while the Alpha contest brings out the worst in the wolves, in general, and in Alcide in particular. Finally, the sinister vampire, Mickey, who has his hooks into Tara reveals the threat posed by rogues who view humans as little more than food.

With regard to Sookie's love life, she is, once again, the object of affection for numerous supernatural males. While she is a smart, witty and resourceful heroine, it is not clear why so many of them have the hots for her.

Bill has been out of the running as Sookie's love interest for several books and this does not appear to be changing any time soon. At this point, he is more of a stalker than anything else.

Eric is as enigmatic as ever and his interactions with Sookie are a highlight as she tries to thwart his determined attempts to discover what really happened between them when he lost his memory.

Alcide's true nature is also revealed via the Alpha contest sub-plot. Whereas the sexy Were truly appeared to care for Sookie in previous books, the darker of his nature is revealed as he attempts to use and manipulate Sookie for his own selfish needs.

Calvin Norris, the were-panther leader, does not fare much better. It is clear that he wants Sookie as little more than a brood-mare and is not above using Jason as leverage.

Sam appears to be the only one who truly cares for Sookie's needs and well-being, but does not appear to be the friends with benefits type.

Finally, we are introduced to a new character in the form of John Quinn, a were-tiger of all things, and one can only assume that he wants into Sookie's pants as well.

All in all, an entertaining addition to the series and I look forward to the next one.

So this was a reread for me, I read it back when I was 16 and in high school and honestly until I got to the very end and we meet Quinn I was thinking I'd skipped this book and read the next one, but I VERY much remember Quinn and that leg licking scene. From this and the next book (as that's the last I read) I LOVED Quinn. So I'm REALLY eager for the next book.

But yeah I didn't remember anything, and I also got tired of the amount of times Sookie is hurt or in danger in this book. It's crazy. There's heaps of people out to get her, there's no real love interest as she's flopping between her feelings for people, and I no longer like Alcide.

Throughout reading, I probably wouldn't have given this a 4 and would have gone with a 3, but Quinn actually ramped up rating just by that one scene alone. I wouldn't say it was him, just maybe the fact there was SOME sort of steam. Everyone else's kisses and such weren't in any way appealing because they all kiss her when they've fucked up or are demanding something from her, but Quinn's scene felt hot simply from a simple smouldering of the eyes, he didn't expect nothing, he backed off because of location. I loved it. Also, I don't find the whole Sam-sookie thing in any way appealing why is why even though it was probably a little steamy, I just still felt it awkward and weird even if she was enjoying herself, or maybe it was the intrusion? No, I still think it's because I don't like that fit.

So basically: no to Calvin, yes to memory loss Eric but maybe to regular Eric, still mad at Bill, hate Alcide because he's a bit too free in affections (I like my shifters tied down not free animals) and not a fan of Sam. Quinn however? Right now he's got a clean slate, he says babe a lot but I can forgive that, and unfortunately I have to wait a week or two for the book to arrive to continue. Sad face.

I love True Blood and the Sookie Stackhouse series but this is by far the most annoying I've read. Granted it's still a good part of the series but there were so many things that I didn't like. Jason has been turned. WHAT? IDK how to feel about that. I did like learning more about the other supernatural creatures. And it seems that Sookie just keeps on getting in trouble and doing all these favors for the supernatural community. I guess it would have been better if the story didn't stretch this far. It's getting boring.

*Takes a deep breath*

Man...the further along I get in this series...the more disappointed I am. This book was an absolute sh*tshow. However; I am a creature of habit so I know that I will continue to read them to the very end because that's just what I do..

Alas, in this book; we see Sookie interacting a bit more with the WerePanthers and the WereWolves. Alcide makes a lot of appearances & Sookie's "incident" with Debbie comes to blows. I think the vampires make an appearance...I truthfully don't even remember. All in all..the moral is Sookie runs into some trouble and has to be saved.

The end. :)

You would think the last (4th) book would have been the one to make me like Eric more but it was honestly this one.

I appreciate the pace and consistency with which this author writes this series. These books are quick light reads and with the increased weaving in of multiple supernatural elements each book rides a nice line of being familiar without being repetitive/blatantly formulaic. I don’t often stick around for these types of book series because by this point my ability with pattern recognition causes me to lose interest but these books have their fangs in me 😂😅

This series... I mean its not the best, but I can't stop.
As a fan of the show I flew through this series.
The very definition of a guilty pleasure.
