I just really dig this book. I'm not even completely sure why. I think that it is just suspenseful enough, just titillating enough, to be a comfort read. I have to leave a few years between re-reads but I have no doubt that I'll read it again.

A very well written page turner which kept my interest even though I hate the fact that this book is based around an affair. I didn't particularly like the characters but yet still managed to empathise to some degree. Well worth a read.

I remembered snippets of this from when the BBC drama came out but was surprised by how much I'd forgotten (although in fairness it was several years ago and I often can't remember what I had for breakfast by the time lunch comes around).
I did overall enjoy this book. The characters are intriguing and there's plenty of tension. I'd say it's maybe a little longer than it needed to be though.
A bonus point for chapters with lots of obvious mid chapter breaks though. I despise long chapters but those little mid chapter breaks sure do help.

I'm not sure how to categorise this book as it's not really a mystery - more a psychological thriller I guess, so not really my usual type of read.
Having said that, I loved it. It is tightly written and compulsive reading, with a little of the geography of the Westminster region of London thrown in.
It's not perfect, with one or two glaring faults towards the end, but I can't say too much about the story without giving the plot line away. Nevertheless, this is a good way to while away a day or two.
