This is one twisted book. Laura works a suicide prevention call center. Ryan, who's wife called the center. This is how the paths meet and insanity begins. I did not like Laura at all, she was just unlikable all the way thru. Ryan, I liked and disliked. But, I definitely recommend the book. So good Had so many twists and turns.

Meet Laura. Laura works at a phone-in suicide prevention center. But, Laura has her own agenda. Rather than helping callers work through their difficulties and trying to point out reasons why they shouldn’t end their lives, Laura aids them in doing just that. Laura knows all how to make suicide less painful because she has studied it in-depth and is willing to share her knowledge with her callers. In fact, she encourages them and actually helps them plan out the perfect suicide. That is, until one of her “victims” discovers her dirty little secret.

Another cracker by Marrs with a one of kind concept!

Laura works for "End of the Line" - a charity that caters to people who need a kind, listening ear, reassuring them that life is worth living while instilling hope & positivity. But she is certainly not doing any of these, but instead she helps the callers die. She feeds on their deaths. But how long can she keep at it without someone finding out? What lengths will she go to protect herself?

Marrs always comes up with something unheard of, distinct & impossible , but turns it into a realistic & believable premise. Throw in his clever plotting & character development, we have an utterly engrossing thriller that will take your breath away.

The plot here is so dark, sinister & at times unfathomable. Laura's narrative & her thought processes will render you speechless, at how twisted the human mind can be & how scarred childhoods can influence us.

I absoluted loved the nerve wracking, dirty mind games going on back & forth between Laura & her nemesis who was out to get her.

But the ending become a bit too over the top & I couldn't come to terms with how things played out - the injustice of it all particularly!

However, it is still a greatly entertaining cat & mouse thriller!

TW// mental health, suicide

This book talks about heavy mental illness topics and depicts planning out/following through with suicide and I feel that the author handled this aspect of the book very well.

I also love how nuanced this book was in several ways.
- The writing style versus the content. You feel like you’re reading about someone doing laundry or going grocery shopping but it’s actually about murder, suicide, and revenge
- The characters themselves. You hate them, but feel for them. You love them, but they make you angry.
- You get a sort of understanding/realization without getting actual answers (but not in a frustrating way)

There are a few things you can kind of figure out before it happens but there’s still no shortage of tension, shocks, and surprises. Definitely a good read.
