An honest delight from start to finish.
Moderate: Homophobia and Racism
Minor: Death of parent and Grief
Spoiler
At one point, the main couple are outed in order to serve someone else's political ambitions. That someone doesn't win, and each of the couple's families (with two exceptions) step up to help them.immortal_bookdragon's review against another edition

I am always skeptical about really popular books. It can be hard to tell if something has just been adopted by the zeitgeist and will drop off the face of the Earth sometime soon. RED, WHITE & ROYAL BLUE made waves in 2019. Three years later and there are already special editions to be bought so I figured I should it might be worth a read.
This book has rightfully gained acclaim.
Alex is the son of the first female US President with dreams of becoming the youngest Senator in history. His mortal enemy is the current Prince of Wales, Prince Henry.
When the two make a scene at a royal wedding, they must make up for the cameras to avoid an international incident and you can probably predict where things go from there considering this is a romance novel.
I am not typically a romance fan so take my review with that in mind. I personally enjoyed this book. The relationships are organic, the sex scenes were hot and surprising and beyond that, it did have something to say about the political identity of the US and the UK.
It didn't surprise me that the book played with the secret romance tropes but it didn't feel played out due to the outdated traditions of both countries. It was realistic yet heartbreaking that it occurs to both men that a sex scandal with a royal wouldn't matter nearly enough if that royal weren't someone of the same sex. The same goes for the fear that the British public wouldn't condemn a royal for imperialism or genocide (or hypothetically... being a sexual predator) but for being gay.
It can be hard to relate to some of the richest and most powerful people in the world but McQuiston does an amazing job of exploring what it is like to be scrutinized in the public eye for a life you didn't choose.
