I'm not much of a fan of the Cinderella story to start, and the Disney changes don't improve it. The whole fairy-tale tendency to equate beauty with goodness isn't great, but at least in the Grimm's version you got the disturbing bits about the stepsisters cutting off bits of their feet in desperation. Being a fan of horror, I always liked that bit.
The one improvement the Disney version makes to the original is that the father just dies instead of hanging out and watching his new wife abuse his child. So that's a plus.
