i actually loved this book (even though i skipped chapter 4--i'll probably go back and skim). AND it was useful dissertation-wise (those two things rarely exist together for me). i wish it had spent more than 2 sentences dwelling on other narratives of the deluge and manifestation of the sublime etc in other works of translation and less time on paintings but overall, enjoyed it a lot.
