You know that feeling when you really want to LOVE a book, but you only LIKE it, and the fact that you didn't LOVE it makes the fact that you only LIKED it even worse? That's kind of what this was like.

B̷R̷I̷N̷G̷ ✨ 𝗕𝗢𝗥𝗥𝗢𝗪 ✨ B̷Y̷P̷A̷S̷S̷

I really liked the first book in this duology a LOT, and was hoping that this one would give me the same feel, but unfortunately it never really hit. The pranks were fun, the chemistry was there, but it all felt kinda forced - and the enemies to lovers part of it was especially forced. I spent a good portion of the book not understanding the origin of the animosity between the two MCs, and by the time it's explained (which was a valid explanation) it had been too long in coming to have the impact it was supposed to.

I still loved the writing, and I loved how real the characters felt - but the length of the enemies to lovers part kinda drove me bonkers. (Also it's pretty insta-love-y as soon as the enemies part is done, for those that aren't a huge fan of that.)

I'll definitely keep reading Sarah Adams, because her books feel like a great big hug and I genuinely enjoy the way I feel reading these characters' stories - but this one wasn't my favorite.

"I think you’re right, Andrew. I think we could make a deal."
 - The Temporary Roomie

CW: Pregnancy, Birth

Tropes:
📖 Pregnancy
📖 Best Friend’s Sibling
📖 Fake Dating
📖 Enemies to Lovers
📖 Roommates to Lovers
📖 Forced Proximity
📖 Pranks
What I liked:
📖 Drew and Cooper’s friendship
📖 Jessie and Lucy’s friendship
📖 How smitten Drew was
📖 Smaller pranks were fun
📖 Writing style
What I didn’t like:
📖 Antagonistic relationship felt a little over the top at times
📖 Narrators Southern accents we sporadic and kind of took me out of it

Final thoughts: After The Off Limits Rule, I was really excited for this one. There were parts I liked, but Jessie got on my nerves a lot. I loved Sarah Adams’ writing, but this one missed the mark with me.

Jessie and Drew hate each other and now they’re living together because of construction at Jessie’s house.

This is a typical enemies to lovers romance. However, I’m not a fan of Jessie. I think she’s absolutely unreasonable for a lot of the book. It makes sense if she doesn’t want to get close to someone, but she hates Drew for basically no reason.

Spoiler Jessie also “pranks” Drew in front of all of his colleagues and absolutely humiliates him. Before that she was just annoying but that really crossed a line to me. He didn’t ever do anything like that to her.

Drew really carried this book and was way better to Jessie than she ever was to him.

I really didn't like the first book, so I was a bit hesitant at the start of this one but I'm so glad I pulled through!

Drew and Jessie's relationship developed so beautifully and especially Jessie's POV's made this so much more than your typical enemies-to-lovers.

They had pranks, they had fights, they had cuddles and kisses, it was something of everything and at the end I was just constantly "aww-ing" 🥰
