My ratings are on An Inspector Calls only, which was one of the best books i’ve read for my English GCSE! Beautiful play and amazing twist!

Enjoy reading An Inspector Calls in secondary school so reread it and the other three plays in the books. An Inspector Calls is still the best but all are enjoyable enough reads.

this book features a collection of plays written by priestley, a person of whom i have encountered through my english classes. when reading ‘an inspector calls’, my interest in his works became apparent to me, and, so, i ventured further and begun to read some of his other plays, such as ‘time and the conways’, ‘i have been here before’, and ‘the linden tree’. out of them, i certainly found ‘the linden tree’ the most engrossing.
‘the linden tree’, similar to priestley’s other plays, explores history and, specifically, the war. it challenges pre-conceived notions and ideologies of the way of life, and life within history itself. professor linden, the protagonist, enters conflict with his family over how life should be lived after the war. there are other elements of toxic femininity as well as divisions of wealth and class and, overall, it is an excellent read and extremely compelling.
