I'm so glad I revisited this classic. I had forgotten the Michigan connection and was glad to be reminded of what it was like to be Black near where I grew up in the 1930s and 1940s. So many of Malcolm X's salient points about racism continue to be true today. The story of his experience on the Hajj was so beautiful. Haley did an incredible job capturing his voice - the power and charisma that he describes in the epilogue is on display on every page.
