Emotional Labor: The Invisible Work Shaping Our Lives and How to Claim Our Power by Rose Hackman

The beginning was fine, and I’m a solid feminist so there’s nothing here I disagree with. But the author’s insistence on including every way women are oppressed in our society under “Emotional labor” just made the phrase meaningless. Call it what it is: oppression, patriarchy, r*** culture, etc.

I ended up highlighting almost the entire book. Just about every word written felt like it needed to be screamed from every rooftop. I’ll be asking everyone I know to read it too. Now, I can’t not see how this plays out in my life as well as every other relationship I have and/or witness. A powerful book.
