This is not a normal read for me as the characters are high school age but I have seen this book all over my Instagram and Goodreads and hearing everyone else's reviews convinced me to give it a try....and I am so glad that I did!! I know some people dislike when books are this long but I personally love it, I love books that just completely immerse you into the story and in the characters lives, you get to see their day to day interactions, thoughts and struggles and the slow burn, realistic time line and lead up really makes it feel so much more real to me! I could not put this book down and ended up finishing it within 3 days just because I was so addicted.

This is one of those books that feels all consuming and very angsty, in the best ways possible. I could physically feel the emotions throughout the entire story and I cannot say enough praise about Chloe Walsh's writing style!!

From the very first page, her writing draws you in and doesn't let go. The pacing is spot on, with just the right amount of tension and drama to keep you on the edge of your seat. But what really sets this book apart is the depth of the characters. Johnny and Shannon are both fully realized individuals with their own hopes, fears, and flaws. You'll find yourself rooting for them from the very beginning, and their chemistry (which is wonderfully and appropriately written for their ages) is palpable. The side characters are just as wonderfully developed and interesting, every single one of them pops to life off the page and the fact that this book is so emotional yet so funny and relatable at the same time is very impressive.

One of the things I loved most about Binding 13 is the way it tackles serious issues without ever feeling heavy-handed or preachy. The book touches on everything from bullying and homophobia to mental health and addiction, but always with a deft hand and a genuine empathy for its characters. However I highly recommend reading the trigger warnings for this book as it does deal with some very heavy subjects.

Overall, Binding 13 is a beautifully written, emotionally resonant book that will stay with you long after you turn the last page. Whether you're a fan of romance, sports stories, or simply great writing, this is a book you won't want to miss. Highly recommend!
