This probably would have been 5 stars if I hadn’t just read All Rhodes Lead Here, but it still was a great book. I think she has just grown as an author and has become so much more descriptive and detailed in world building now that I noticed when it wasn’t as strong in this book. Granted, she does live in the city ARLH is written in, but I still think more could have been described in this book outside of the house she lived in with Aiden.
Loved everything else about it, but thought there were slight loose ends with her family, Di, etc. but hey, that’s not what the story is about really so that’s ok cause Di will get her own anyway. Still loved it and loved Vanessa, and loved Zac, and loved Leo, and LOVED Aiden.

This book was painfully slow. It is not a dual pov and it was just not enjoyable. I heard she was the queen of the slow burn, but it was slow without tension and I finished it with the hope that it would get better

The story is a five-star review. See my earlier review of the Kindle version. Unfortunately, the audible version falls short. I didn't particularly care for the narration by Callie Dalton. I didn't buy into her voice for Vanessa, a lifelong Texan. I hated her voice for other women when she went high and whiny. And then there is her voice for Aidan, the Wall of Winnipeg. It is a rare narrator, who can convincingly do voices for both male and female characters. For such a masculine character, Dalton just could not manage to create the character. The story itself is outstanding. Happily, the most recent audible versions of Zapata's books have both male and female narrators.

I swear if anybody ever tells me I’m impatient my argument will always be that I cannot possibly be too impatient because I’ve read Mariana Zapata. This has got to be the slowest slow burn I’ve ever read in my life! But it was so good, and even after 537 pages I felt like I needed more. More Aiden. More romance. This could’ve been two hundred pages longer and I would have happily read it. Obviously I cared about both characters and I feel a loss now that I’m done with the story. At times I found myself wanting to rush through the plot, starving for more of what the author had planned. I knew that eventually our two characters would come to care about each other more but what I didn’t expect was for Aiden to always be that grouchy hero. This is definitely a grouchy sunshine romance.
Vanessa is working as an assistant to NFO player Aiden. He really is a grouchy ass, and he doesn’t treat Vanessa warmly, or even appreciate her for all the hard work she’s put in to taking care of him. After two years of working for Aiden, Vanessa has saved up enough money to finally quit and go after her real dream (which she went to college for) of graphic design. She’s able to quit Aiden, after a horrible day, without much of a reaction out of him. Fast forward to a month later when Aiden suddenly shows up to Vanessa’s door asking for her help getting his United States citizenship. What follows is a marriage of convenience, and two people going from a business transaction to something more.
Aiden wasn’t your average hero. He’s super focused on his career and himself, thinking he doesn’t have the time for any significant relationships. Vanessa is definitely the sunshine in the relationship, but with her own family problems and anger issues. Aiden was so slow to come around, little itty bitty details here and there let you know that Vanessa was wiggling her way into his heart. And I loved for those!
Will I read another Mariana Zapata book? Yes. Yes I would, even if it’s 700 pages long. It isn’t always fast paced, it’ll definitely test your patience, but it is so good when things finally get there. That last chapter is everythinnng!

I LOVED this story, these 2 broken people, and how they find themselves in each other. The audio book was really well done and had me listening long past my "standard listening times".

This was on par with what to expect from Zapata's writing. It was lovely. It was a slow burn, which I expected. I really enjoyed this one, but I didn't fall in love with it like I did Kulti.
