My new favourite book in the Shadowhunter Chronicles? I think so.

I will never get over the fact that I got to read this early. What a dream come true. This was one of my most anticipated releases and it did NOT disappoint.

Wow I loved everything about this book. The characters (hello new favourite character Cordelia Carstairs <3), the angst, the QUOTES (so many good quotes), the setting (1900s London), the plot (super engaging and love the antagonist), EVERYTHING! It's also so satisfying having questions answered!

I can't wait for this to be released in March 2020 so everyone can read this masterpiece!

Thank you so much to Walker Books Australia for sending me an early copy of this book. I am forever thankful!

3.25/5: this was underwhelming. it’s good for what it is - a cassandra clare ya fantasy - but nothing about this book really stood out to me. first of all - as much as i loved seeing will, jen and tessa again (the infernal devices were so bomb) - their depictions as adults felt shallow and one-dimensional. the plot was pretty predictable and it felt like a lot of moments from the previous books were being recycled and there were quite a few moments resolved by convenience. the main characters were also kinda shallow and boring and lack the complexity i was expecting from them. but the story overall was still interesting enough to finish reading. the writing, however, was really simple and lackluster (maybe just in comparison to all the beautiful prose i’ve been reading recently). i’ll still prolly give the sequel a shot but i remember shadowhunter books hitting way harder.
