This one started off great! And the concept is interesting and there are so many interesting characters, but... it just didn't work for me? I wouldn't tell someone not to read this one and know people who'd probably enjoy it, but it isn't for me.

“So…” I pressed, rolling up on an elbow so I could look down at him. “Is it an undead thing? Like, you can’t father children because your sperm isn’t viable?”
One eyelid peeled open, revealing a sliver of blue. “I’m a vampire,” he deadpanned. “Don’t you read books? I can’t come inside unless I’m invited.”

I am glad I wasn't expecting anything when I picked this up because I would have been so disappointed otherwise.

It's not that it is inherently bad, things didn't click. The heroine is odd, the hero is also odd, their oddness doesn't fit together. And not odd in a good way.

There might be a story in there somewhere. We'll see...

ehhhh this book was a lot worse than the last two if I am going to be honest. I think it was the lack of Nigellus. At least we got to briefly see my favie (Albigard) and got to spend much more time with Guthrie (a lesser favie). Okay so. This book felt like... Totally aimless. Like I didn't lose the plot or anything but just. Whatever. I liked this book's two chapter sex scene more than the previous one's though LOLLLL but this book was still overall boringgggg slowwwww talking too much for a lot of nothing going onnnn... but whatever it was okay. I'm still gonna finish the series. But this book was just... Not even comparable in quality to books 3 and 4, more akin to the first two books of the series in how utterly uninteresting it all was. A bad book to start 2023 off with I fear. Also I guessed the ending but like... we knew that was coming LOL so it's okay ! i like it !!!

Better review coming once I've slept maybe

3.5 Fun and I liked a lot of it and disliked some parts but overall very normal quality.. rans is growing on me a lot. I felt like a lot of things happened but also nothing kinda. Idk. Will keep reading tho duh

Okay I've slept.
Spoilers!!!!!! Untagged read w caution
Sfw//I found Rans grew on me a LOT during this book. He was very sweet to wait for Zorah at hell's gate, especially bringing that salt shiv with him. I love Edward I'm glad we got to see more of him and of him and Nigellus' relationship. It's clear they care deeper than what we are told/shown for each other and I love that (who couldn't be that close after CENTURIES upon centuries with each other?) Also glad that some daddy issues were kneaded over in this book, made me cry. I appreciate Zorah's incremental growth and the rising stakes. I miss Albigard hope we see more of him in book 5.
Nsfw//That breathplay drowning scene was terrible (I hate drowning things) I know she was never in any real danger but that shit spanned 2 chapters and I was so icked out like damn.. good for them though I guess.

Audiobook narrated by Gwendolyn Druyor, she knows her characters well, nicely edited. What a great finale to the series, finally I get what I needed from the characters, the world, and all the story behind it all. Zorah and Rans were fantastic. I so love Rans at this point. Nice way to close the series with a happy ending, the spin-off series are calling my name.

It is a nice start even though it's a little predictable and ends a little too abruptly for my liking. I like the characters and the plot so I'll be reading the next books!

I didn’t love it but I’ll be reading the rest for the cliffhangers and the smut factor.

Interesting

It was an interesting book, and in a good way, lol. I haven’t read one with this particular story line. It wasn’t what I was expecting but I am intrigued enough to want to read the next book!

Soooo this series is starting to bore me. I only rounded up because I admittedly laughed quite a lot with this one. But really, nothing much happens until the very end. And I tire of Zorah dragging innocent people into her fucked up life and destroying theirs in the process.

We start with Rans squaring off against his mentor. I really wanted to tell Zorah to shut up here. Her attitude with the last couple books has really started to grate on me. This confrontation leads to the two of them losing their debatably strongest ally and floundering with what to do next. After all, they are surrounded by enemies and now have a fledgling vampire to deal with.

With much help from Albigard, the three of them make it to their destination. Thinking that the ocean with its salt water will protect them from demons, and that if they move fast enough the fae won't know where they went, they all go on a little cruise for the uber rich. Which was the most boring part of the book. And again, I have to say I am not into what happens between Rans and Zorah there. It is not my thing.

But even with this impromptu trip, they are quickly found and have to find a way to flee from their fae pursuers. A valiant attempt is made, but in the end they're still caught.
SpoilerOkay, so something bugged me with this. In the first book when Rans is shot in the chest he takes a while to be okay again. But here he is SHOT IN THE HEAD which EXPLODES but he's okay just a couple minutes later. It doesn't make sense!
It's a desperate fight with a terrible outcome. Which leads to an end that I honestly never even though about happening. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out with the last book next.
