I enjoyed this collection of short stories.
Authentic dialogue
Hilarious scenes and engaging storylines
However, this title is misleading.
Most stories in this collection have nothing to do with romance or love stories. And many of the stories focused on life abroad (In England)
I expected to read a collection of romance with Nigerian settings and characters and it was completely far from it.
It was however an engaging and realistic tale of the struggles of living in Nigeria with a lot of emphasis in comparison to living in England.

2.5-3 stars. I feel very ambivalent about this book of short stories. It’s a book about various kinds of love (mostly prospective love or unhappy love) that Nigerians experience in Nigeria (particularly in the post-colonial era and the 70s and 80s, not very contemporary) and the kind of love diasporan Nigerians experienced around that same time. I feel like the stories felt more like excerpts or premises than complete stories with a beginning and an end. Sometimes we entered the stories at the heaviest bit of it and then there was no closure, at a cliff hanger, we’re harried to the next melodramatic tale. I think there are some interesting premises in this book of short stories even though most of the stories felt a little abrupt.

The language is smooth and simple, and peppered with local expressions. It is a window into Nigerian culture we rarely get to experience. I particularly love how each story ends where love begins. The endings are all up in the air, and I love that.
