WOW this book has not aged well! Halberstam writes that liberal parents see trans kids as trophies, call for unnecessary attention and accommodations for them, and push them into binary identities that serve these straight, cis parents' agendas more than the kids' welfare. LOL, if there is a legit critique of cishet parents in there it is definitely drowned out by the deluge of complete nonsense (parents DON'T see trans kids as trophies, that is malicious BANANAS) that in 2022 sounds more like it comes from some TERF hot take about how giving trans kids proper medical care erases the fluidity of gender or something. Nope.
