It’s a beautiful and mellow read in the best way. The Mediterranean setting and the inner workings of the main character make it an enticing summer read.

this book is so pretentious. like? it was solely based on "actor" vibes. and I personally did not vibe with that. maybe I'm not too into movies and actors and that's why. or perhaps it was just a pointless jumble of words. what was the meaning of this? i gained nothing. i couldn't care less about the characters because they were even interesting. nothing compelled me to be even the tiniest bit intrigued. except maybe that girl the maestro insulted(? which I didn't get why or how...).

i was so bored out of my mind but I've already dropped one boring book (that was also significantly larger) and wanted to commit. i thought "maybe it will get better". no. nothing happened. my life will continue to be the same. I'm quite upset that i've lost 6+ hours on this book. i'd rate it even lower but the cover is pretty and the characters are gay.

I loved how this book raises the question about ownership of stories, who can decide how a narrative is told and what changes you can make without betraying the fabric of the story. The modernist stream of conscious style narration really works. The dynamic between Maestro and Cosima plays out beautifully as we see them both surrender all of themselves to each other. Ultimately she refuses to let her story become his because she knows that when he creates, he is “selfishly” immortalising himself and his views.

I do like books which are just about wandering around, having conversations. But this one was a little artsy fartsy/male for me. Worth a read - I liked the female character.
