First I have to say, I have never read any book by Lauren Oliver. I had heard good things about her books and yes I have been wanting to read some of her books every since I have started blogging so when I was asked if I wanted to review Vanishing Girls I just had to jump on the chance to read it.

Anyway, I do love Lauren Oliver's writing but the first few chapters were boring and I was tempted on quitting reading it but then it got better. Not a book I just couldn't put down but it is a decent read. There was a twist at the end that I didn't see coming at all which was a nice surprise.

Vanishing girls started with a bang that became a slow burn. It bounces between the perspectives of Nick (Nicole) and her sister Dara after an accident that tore apart their family. It is interesting to see the severe differences between them played out in flash backs and the relationship they both have with best friend/ neighbor Parker. Though this was a bit of a sleeper, I still found it quit enjoyable. So far Lauren Oliver has been a constant fave for me and I can't wait for her next.

The audio was great on this one. I had forgotten the details so was glad I did the re-read via audio. Definitely check it out.

What I Liked
Unlike some, I didn't see the ending coming. Now I realize how much I should have, but I didn't at all and it blew me away. Now I want to go back and re-read the book to see the scenes and interactions between people, knowing the endings.

The rivalry between the two sisters is believable and tangible. It reminds me of the relationship between me and my own sister.

What I Didn't Like
There is a lot of reminiscing. A lot of "remember when we went to the beach and fell down and then sand was on us and then the sky was pretty? Remember that?" (not a quote). Every chapter has several of these kinds of memories... and since we weren't there, they tend to become dull. A few memories like that can help the reader see the relationship cemented between characters, but when it's unceasing, it feels like we are left out of an inside joke.
