Basically the “starter pack” meme but instead of doc martens or a particular shade of jeans it’s like “American girls who flit hither and thither” or “American girls who wander about in the warm starlight like an indolent sylph” and that’s basically this book

"I think you have made a mistake," said Winterbourne. "You should sometimes listen to a gentleman—the right one."

I read this as part of the Rory Gilmore challenge.

Henry James use of words like “Well!" ejaculated Miss Miller,” are sexual charged and read strangely but interestingly

Daisy Miller is a headstrong American women who wouldn’t be out of place nowadays. This book is interesting as a historical account. Daisy miller is modern women which makes her a very likable character. But the eras is drenched in misogyny and pre-globalisation isolationism.

Their is illness representation which was actually okay - the book describes her headaches as constant problem & one of the characters who asks “surely she doesn’t have a headache everyday” The book explains maybe not be the condition is relentless.

Great novella! A nice warm up of James’ writing style before reading The Portrait of a Lady.
