This book was a solid beginning to the series. It was a little slow for me, which may have to do with the fact that I'm going into a reading slump, and less to do with the book; it was introducing and setting everything up, so it makes sense that it wasn't plot-heavy. I was influenced to read this book by the author's Instagram; saying it was a clean romance fantasy book, so I didn't know too much going into it. Overall, I think this series has the potential to be good and exciting. I think people looking for an easy-to-understand fantasy book that doesn't have any spice, this book (and series, I assume) would be good for you.

this book wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good either. i think i need to read a book in between this one and the first main book in the trilogy because this novella did not excite me for the rest of the series. the main thing that I disliked was the love interest. he was not interesting to me. and i know there is going to be another love interest throughout the trilogy so i’m confused and hoping he does not pop up again and cause drama

I just needed to dip my toes in the water before we go for a dive. The series crossed my feeds and I've just been in a fantasy escapism mood lately, and YA is usually where it's at when you need to get lost within a world with ease.

This prequel novella was all slow burn and fast paced intros. I'm hoping as I venture into the official first book of the series where the characters are a little older, it'll feel less choppy and more fleshed out. Weston Grey, I hope we'll get to see more of you.

Prequel to Blade of Ash. Fun read, glad to get some background into Aly and Grey before starting book 1.

This novella is a great intro. It was fast paced and easy to read. I loved Aly and I can't wait to see what happens next.

I'm not usually a novella reader but I really enjoyed this one! I liked Aly and reading a bit of her backstory before diving into the first book. The magic was super cool and I'm interested in learning more about it. I'm excited to get started with this series!

I found this prequel absolutely wonderful.  Aly is a very lovable character.  An underdog to the fullest.  Grey is a great character as well but we know he's hiding something - but what?  This was a super fast read that layed out the foundation for what I believe will be a phenomenal book.  The plot is interesting with plenty of politics and betrayal.  The magic system is superb.  The pacing was fast, I couldn't put it down.  Can't wait to read the next one!!
