This book was wild man. I read the second one with my fifth grade class and honestly had no memory of anything about the characters. I was definitely not expecting people to just let Pippie get away with all her antics, albeit that they were ridiculously hilarious. Still not sure what a “scrubbing vacation” is though.

It's cute, but not my kind of children's lit.

I'm SO glad I finally got a chance to read it, though.

I’ve finally gotten around to reading this classic children’s story. I do understand why Pippi Longstocking is who she is. And, I did also enjoy the whimsical tales of Pippi’s adventures. However, I just find Pippi long-suffering. She is quite the mix of attitude. Open incredulity and impetuousness when an adult asks her basic questions (such as math sums) to kindness and naivety when confronted with stickier situations (two men break into her home to steal her cash and she offers them a night of music and cookies).

Yes, I know. It is a children’s tale, and I am not a child

I was a bit disappointed with this. Lauren Child's illustrations are great and suit the book perfectly, but the story wasn't quite what I thought it would be. It's all very off the wall crazy, which I do like, but something didn't quite work for me. Maybe if I'd read it when I was about 8...

Freaking adorable. I absolutely loved the animated movie growing up and had no idea it followed the book so closely. I can't even count the times I've watched it. It was so much fun finally reading the book it was based on.
Each chapter was its own little adventure and they were all so much fun. Pippi is such a great character. Totally her own person and completely unique. I really want to read more books about Pippi!

It’s so fun to revisit stories from when I was a kid. Pippi was always a bit intimidating for me. I think I wanted to be like her. I still do.
