This was a really cute young adult romance. I really enjoyed following both characters and picking up on the Cinderella references. Ashley Poston did a great job subtlety and then not so subtlety sneaking this in. I am not sure if I will continue on with the series, but this one would be great if you are looking for something that is a fast pace read.

This was well developed - how Darien ended up texting Elle because it was the ExcelsiCon's founder aka Elle's father and the the part about who actually leaked Darien's photos - was really good. Also, the author does a good job of not making Darien's former friend who sold him out or Elle's stepmother as one dimensional. They are not just bad people, just not right people for the MCs.
But, I hate characters who don't stand up to bullies. If I were Ella, I would be putting dish-soap in her stepmom's coffee, hair removal cream in her stepsister's shampoo, itch powder in their bedsheets and underwear and putting sugar in the gas tank. Seriously, Ella was the only one who did anything around the house, she could done so much of fucking with her stepsisters and stepmom. Also, why was she so dumb leaving behind her mom's dress and ExcelsiCon tickets in a place where her step-bitch-sister can get her hands on them? Even that final "taking down" of Chloe the mega-bitch was abysmal. I have had sneezes that did more damage. A totally unsatisfying ending.

4-4.5 stars. This was such a fun quirky read. It's a modern day Cinderella with fandom, and I am all in for that. This is one of my favourite Cinderella retellings.
I absolutely loved the portrayal of the fandom, it felt real and was probably my favourite aspect. I must say, the show in the book sounds really good. I enjoyed all of the characters, they were cute and diverse.

To be fair. I haven’t read thaaaat many Cinderella retellings. Besides Cinder, that is. I’ve only watched retellings. I love the idea of a geeky princess finding her own royalty in a world of nerds that isn’t as feminine as ‘Cinderella’ might make you believe.
I loved the main character which for me changes everything. And shows good penmanship. How many female protagonists are just so damn annoying? Be honest. Over half of my current reads fall into that description. Especially when there are such inspiring side characters that get pushed to the side.
I loved that one of the stepsister’s is like Anastasia from Disney’s version. She essentially fell in love with the charming baker. But of pumpkin fritters and things.
The WIENER DOG!!!!!! He deserves everything. The world’s best. Frank the Tank.
I’m just so happy I’ve read two contemporaries in a row I love!
Also in my opinion the references were more Star Trek than Star Wars.
But that might just be me.

This is a Cinderella-inspired story of a girl who loves the cult-classic TV show, Starfield, and the boy playing the main character in the movie reboot. Told from alternating perspectives, Elle and Darien first connect over a text sent to Elle's late father's phone, without either knowing who the other is - he, a teen-soap star just cast as the formidable and iconic Carmindor, and she, author of the Stargunner blog that eviscerates his casting and daughter of the ExcelsiCon founder, the con Darien is desperately trying to get out of attending. Hijinks ensue within the narrative structure of the Cinderella story, and Elle and Darien's relationship evolves over their anonymous text messages. The ride is fun (though it loses a bit of momentum in a few places) and the end is wholly satisfying. The narrators brought this story to the sparkling life it deserved - I especially loved the appropriately Southern accident from Eileen Stevens.
