Most sci fi: what if the government/a corporation was wickeder than now and we ate people meat and pig-Human hybrid monsters roamed the earth or our overlords remade our bodies in scary ways and humans fought a war that destroyed the planet. O tragedy for we greedy humans succumb to fascist regimes or our natural anarchistic destructive murderous impulses….just too bad…..no revolution is pure….
Octavia Butler: aliens with three genders save us and abolish death. they live in houses grown out of trees and the future is monstrous only to those who cling to a world of warfare and discord . Our future bodies are cool and lumpy with nodules and there’s still a power dynamic but mutual need causes both aliens and humans to fight to empathize with each other

Octavia writes science fiction in a way that I have never experienced elsewhere. it's enticing, seductive, exciting, creepy and fresh even after all of these years. she is one of the reasons I love science fiction. book 2 in this series does not disappoint, but its a tad slower than book one in my opinion.

love this perspective, about what it takes to bridge the gap in any meaningful way, between clashing cultures with few easy solutions.
