One of the Stranger Times series strengths is the relationships between its characters. For too much of this book, those relationships were underutilised in a variety of ways -
from Hannah's abrupt departure at the beginning of the book, to Baincroft kidnapping Stella (I'm still not quite clear if he was entranced or just desperate and naive), to relatively little from Ox and Reggie and almost nothing after they fall into conflict. Much of the plot is driven by a new character, Betty, who we don't even get a chapter to say goodbye to.
I love these characters, I just felt there was something missing from this installment - hopefully we'll get more in future books.
