This was a really good book. Did not know who had been doing the killing until just about the end of the book.

Suspense was pretty good. Romance very tacked-on. I think Barton should maybe just move to straight up suspense if she's not going to develop the romance properly.

4 stars.
This was my first Beverly Barton and I really enjoyed it. I did feel though that it could have done with some more editing as it was overly long and repetitive in some places.
Her writing gave me Linda Howard vibes and I will definitely pick up another of her books

I am a big fan of this genre, so had to pick this up. Glad I did.

I enjoyed the plot of this book despite the fact I guessed the ending less than 100 pages in. While at first the constant reminders of how each character is related to one another was tiresome, soon I found it easy to skim over.

Amazing! Such a great book! Struggled putting it down and the last few chapters the tensions rises so much , so many plot twists I just had to keep reading ! So glad I bought it!

This was an average book. I neither like it very much, nor disliked it in some way. I just read it (though it was a bit too long) and I will forget it in a few weeks.

The best part of it was probably the suspense. The idea of the serial killer and
it's connection to the past case
was interesting enough to keep me reading, while I found the characters boring. However, the case of Rocking Chair Murderer is solved too easy and quickly for my taste.

What I didn't like is calling J.D. a bad and uncaring father just because he finds it difficult to adjust to the idea of having a teenage daughter. I believe he does his best to change the things, even decides to go on a therapy. Okay, he admits he probably don't like his daughter but neither she does. Zoe even doesn't call him Dad and she wishes somebody else was her father. It's not like she is making it easy for J.D. to became a good father.

The characters were taking some stupid actions from time to time. They weren't very significant for a plot but still, I expected them to act more thoughtful. Instead, I couldn't stop rolling my eyes. Sometimes the characters seemed so childish, especially Audrey with her silly anger toward J.D.

I am not sure if this book can be classified as a romantic suspense, I would rather call it a mystery with a tiny bit of romantic affair. Really, it can not be consider a romance as long as the MC are not sure if they like each other for the most part of the book and it's up to 75% since they make the first step and exchange the first kiss. By the way, I'm still not sure if they suit each other, I couldn't find any feelings between them except thinking about each other quite often. And their sex seemed somehow passionless.

For some reason I struggle with this book a lot. I'm not even sure why. The disadvantages that I pointed above weren't enough to give up reading it, so I keep on for over a week 'till the end.
