I like this one less in the first book in the series and I can't quite put my finger on why. Both books cover homophobia and the MC overcoming their own internal homophobia. This book deals with assaul, so it's heavier than the first book. Since it's so short, it's kind of insta lovey; they knew each other for a long time, so it makes sense, but things happen very quickly in the book. The character development for Cax is the main plot of the book, see him being more comfortable and more assertive with himself.
Graphic: Hate crime and Homophobia
Minor: Child abuse

toward the very end, one characters ask another “don’t i own you now? like a slave?” in reference to the fact that they rescued one of the mcs and they now are “indebted” to them. i thought this phrasing was very jarring and came out of nowhere. it honestly made me rate the book lower than i was originally going totabear's review against another edition
