This is the third book in the series. And I really enjoyed this one. It is probably a favorite of mine in the series. The book introduces Richard for the first time. I wish Richard was like he was in this book -- later in the series. Because he seemed more comfortable with who/what he is then he does later in the series. I also really enjoyed seeing Anita and Jean Claude's relationship starting to warm up. The plot, action, relationship development were all really fun and exciting in this book!

this was entertaining and fast paced. easy to read however it still has problematic issue of the 90s not as much as the book before that had slut shaming but definitely usage wordings that we don’t use no more.

Whoever said that vampire hunting is ripe with glory is either an idiot or extremely misinformed.
Well, at least according to the Anita Blake series. On a daily basis she gets to crawl around in grave dirt covered in chicken blood. And that's a good day. Her bad days include multiple counts of kidnapping (her as the victim, of course), seeing people she cares about hurt (and often tortured), and, of course, nagging calls from her boss. Not to mention her collection of fascinating scars from having the crap beaten out of her far too often. She's been branded, bitten (no, not in the good way, instead in the 'rip pieces of flesh out of her' way), stabbed, torn at, kicked, punched, burned, and has had limbs dislocated. And that's not including the spoilers.

Of course, what's a girl to do after receiving all these injuries? Sleep off the pain, of course. Except she can't. There's always some distraction waiting for her at home. Even with special locks. When she finally gets to sleep around dawn (if she does get to sleep at all), you know that phone will be ringing in just a couple of hours. Those darn day people!

Just reading about what she goes through makes me exhausted. If I was her, I'd have run away, very far away, by now. Maybe to a calm, solitary Buddhist temple in Tibet. There are no monsters in Tibet, right? ...RIGHT?

As for the books, I love them. They are suspenseful, stressful, nail-biting in intensity, and reading them tends to give me strange dreams. But hey, we can ignore that last part, right? I'm way too attached to Anita and her insane predicaments to stop now. However, I'll leave the number of my chosen insane asylum just in case.

Enter Richard... and now the vamp-girl-wolf triangle begins. (Anita was struggling with this long before Bella was thought of!)

I love love loved Richard in these early books... of course, I'm twenty books in now and have some serious issues with him, but that's neither here nor there.

I liked Circus of the Damned. I still find Jean Claude annoying, but I felt like I understood him a little better and what he was struggling with. I wished Anita would have listened more, but it worked out that she wasn’t afraid of Alejandro.

It doesn’t matter how hot it is in St. Louis, Anita Blake refuses to leave the house without a sweatshirt. Chapter after chapter Anita finds herself sweating her ass off while wearing a thick pullover. The girl will never learn. We respect this dumb queen.
