I mostly enjoyed this book. It was a little triggering for me at the end, and I think that’s affecting my feelings about it. I really enjoyed the writing style and will look for more books by this author.

I hated the MC—she was just too annoying and bitchy, while simultaneously being completely unaware of both personality traits.

I've been on a Jennifer Weiner kick recently, including her memoir and the amount of things I realized were just self-inserts in this book were almost uncomfortable. It felt very early 2000s fanfic (to be fair it was written in 2001, but it's not fanfic, so...). Anyway, the premise of the book is decent, although I have no clue why Cannie spent any time with Bruce - he was a pain and overall useless to her. However, once things took a turn for Cannie there was no stopping her and it was just silly - like girl gets everything she wants (and more) and still can't stop whining about it.

I did not like this at all. The character "development" is awful and I would not really call it much of a progress. Basically in the last 20 pages we suddenly get a "Oh, yeah, no, I now have completely accepted myself" but in an unsatisfying, too quick and unbelievable manner.
That said, what left me ultimately disappointed, was how shallow this book was and how quickly certain life-altering and life-deciding decisions are made, without a clear thought process of why/how (s. spoilers). Also the negative attitude of the main character's towards her mum being Lesbian and especially her life partner really irked me and were unrealistic, stupified, over-the-top and not something I can condone in a book.
All the characters around the MC are like lifeless paper cut-outs with no real feelings and lifes of their own that are just conveniently placed there to surround the MC. Super boring.
The "office-bully" is ... really lame? Like the "bullying" is not even remotely dramatic / harassing / harmful or anything and it's actually super strange for how much MC harpes about this enmity, that all-defining negative relationship but it's actually like ... not that of a big deal?

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER
The character becomes accidentally pregnant and chooses to keep the baby after half a page only in-book thinking but the thoughts were mostly "I never really wanted kids and I actually don't like them that much", blablabla So why did she keep it? To this point, no clue. The thought process of the main character is severely staunted and limited.
