Found myself not paying attention more than I was.
A mixed bag of stories and perhaps an over ambitious first foray into Lovecraft’s work.

I really wanted to like this book more. For me the stories were very repetitive and some of them very slow paced. Overall I did liked the stories as idias.

I don’t feel comfortable rating Lovecraft stories because the racism and xenophobia of the author shows on his work. But do I like his kind of atmospheric, out of this world Horror? Yes. The man could write bleak, gloomy atmosphere with touches of madness. However, I cannot recommend his stories without making it clear that at some points in his text you do see his racist and Xenophobic inclinations. There is no denying it. So BIG Trigger Warnings for those, though in recent editions of his works I can see the effort from editors to “clean” the offensive language.

Lovecraft has quite a way with words able to create an intense and ghostly mood with words.
He is also a product of his time and definitely had an influence on our current times.
Although the ethnocentrism, racism and sexism is typical of his times - what perhaps I find the most concerning about his view point is the way that his expert use of language validates and romanticizes the horror of the other and is based on a deeper premise which underlies most racism and white supremacy - the idea that there are certain species and/or races that are more advanced or evolved and others are of less value at best and at worst evil and horrific.
