Overall loved the book. The end felt a little rushed. I feel like if other stuff in the book was edited out King could have taken more time to close out the story.

This is a linear story of one event happening after another. There’s very little character development and the relationships are all superficial. There’s tragedy and no real levity. So I find myself wondering why I liked this book, and I realized it’s because it's a plausible book. This could happen anywhere. Please be responsible pet owners and get your pets up to date on all their shots and whatnots!

i didn’t care much for the drama between the people, but I knew it was necessary. I was just bored during those parts. thankfully, Cujo the dog made up for it, everytime it was his perspective.
And the whole part of being stuck in the car was written really well. I was very tense the whole time.

Re-read April 2024: The first half was a 3-star book, then things started to all come together and I can see the breadcrumbs King had laid. I highly recommend the audiobook narrated by Lorna Raver. What an actress. This book made me angry, tense, and sad. I want to be Donna when I grow up. What a resilient, determined, fearless woman. I'll share a longer review soon.

Following a slow first half, Cujo really picks up towards the end. A well known King novel, the ending leaves a bitter taste in the mouth and a feeling of “what if” so familiar to many of his stories.

I wasn't sure how much I was going to get into a book about a monster dog, or how scared I'd feel while reading it, but I got into it and I did feel scared, tense, and on edge at various points! Again, also fun to see the small advantages to my King chronological read with this one! A solid book, with an unsurprising emotional tug, that goes a lot deeper than the obvious scary parts!

If this would've been written entirely (or mostly at least) in Cujo's point of view, this could've been a four star book. But the unnecessary, hideously boring jarring affairs, childhood memories and what other garbage (like Steve Kemp's existence) that didn't further the plot and didn't grow on the characters made this such a drag to read. The amount of characters with no relevance and still five pages worth of character background made me want to quit the story. Typical Stephen King.
