As a horsey person, it's a bit of a pet peeve of mine when horse tack is poorly depicted in illustrations, so I had to work at ignoring the bridle situation in this book. Besides that, I enjoyed the homey adventure of this story and I won't lie it got me dreaming of being a packhorse librarian in another life.

Obviously I'm going to be interested in books about the Pack Horse Librarian Project since I am a librarian in KY. So I'm extra excited about this gorgeously illustrated children's book about a pack horse librarian bringing picture books through to the children in KY's Appalachia.

A fantastic historical fiction picture book that captures the grueling experiences of the packhorse librarians of Kentucky. More emphasis on adventurous spirit and love of reading than on grinding poverty or dangerous routes, but a fabulous introduction nonetheless.
