3.5 stars, chapters 98-106. End of the Entertainment District Arc and start of the Swordsmith Village Arc.

We got to see more of Muzan and all the Upper Moons together. The design of upper moon one in my opinion was fantastic and extremely intimidating. I look forward to seeing more of him. I also liked the concept of the machine doll in the village and how Swordsmiths help train the demon slayers.

However, I really didn't like the concept of the 'Love' Hashira. 'Love' is a boring power to me and I much prefer the elemental powers like water/mist/fire. The 'Love' Hashira is predictably a beautiful female with pink hair, generic personality and using a whip as a weapon. An overdone idea I've seen lots of times. Its frustrating that storylines or powers for female characters in this series are mostly around beauty/sex/love/needing to be protected by a male. There are a few exceptions to this, but there is a pattern.

I also felt the action/fighting started too early and it would have fared better if a longer amount of time was spent exploring the culture, people/leaders and the history of the swordsmith village. To me, it felt like Tanjiro had just got there, met people, learned surface level information and now the place is going to get destroyed by the moons. It felt like a missed opportunity to give this world proper depth.

I am continuing to read because although I have my frustrations, I do still like the overall concept and I am invested in where the story is going.

We are halfway in the series! 11 volumes more to go, eep! In this one Tanjiro recovers, then visits the town of the swordsmiths (which had me laugh how that was done, I mean, I get it being secret, but all that effort? And then given the ending.. ). I wasn't happy to see Tanjiro's swordsmith again, I mean, that dude gets ANGRY at Tanjiro in a way that just rubs me wrong and for all the dumb reasons. I mean, swords are NOT supposed to break or chip that easily. And given that more people have problems with his swords/his attitude, it surprises me that he can still be a smith. But thankfully there is plenty of great other stuff happening, though the new kid was a bit annoying. He started off OK, but then went in some kind of mode that just rubbed me wrong, what is up with these people in this town? We also meet Genya and Mitsuri Kanroji! And later someone else. I loved seeing these though Genya. Please. Stop being deredere. XD The ending was exciting and OMG I need to read on!
Oh, and I love how Tanjiro stays kind and friendly and polite even in scary situations.
