"The Final Girls Support Group" by Grady Hendrix has an intriguing premise that initially draws you in, promising a fresh take on the horror genre. However, as the story unfolds, it becomes quite lengthy and convoluted, with repetitive elements that detract from the overall experience. The pacing could have benefited from a more direct approach to the resolution.
Hendrix spends considerable time exploring various potential culprits, which unfortunately causes the narrative to drag. By the time the resolution arrives, it feels like a relief rather than a climax, leaving readers less invested in its outcome.
For those who enjoy gore and action-packed scenes, this book delivers plenty of blood and fight sequences. There's even a touch of romance woven into the storyline. However, some plot points, like attributing blame to parental figures, felt clichéd in an otherwise innovative concept.
Overall, while "The Final Girls Support Group" offers moments of excitement and creativity, it ultimately falls short due to its pacing and eventual predictability.

Loved all the references to horror movie tropes. Didn't love the protagonist or the predictable aspects of the resolution. I do feel like this will adapt REALLY well to the screen, far better than some of the horror shows I've watched in the past.

*3.5. After absolutely devouring Southern Book Club and My Best Friends Exorcism…this left much to be desired. While Hendrix continues to write excellent female leads and intricate relationships, the Final Girls just didn’t grab me the way his other characters have.
Perhaps it was because SBCGTSV and MBFE used the supernatural to be creepy, so FGSG just felt like senseless violence and gore. And maybe it’s unfair to compare, but I’ll end this review by saying Grady Hendrix has much better options to choose from than this one.

So it took me a while to get into it. But once I did I was able to finish it in 5 hours. The flow was really nice. There were twists and turns that made it so you never knew more then what the characters did.
It wasn't graphic at all, but it was definitely a horror type of book. I liked the Scream series when I was younger, and this gave me the same kind of vibes. I will be reading it again.
This was my first book I've read by Grady Hendrix, and I will be checking out more of their work.
