My biggest issue is that Peggy annoyed me. But she also reminded me of myself, which gives me a lot to consider.

Not a type of book I would normally read but I'm so glad I did. Full of love without being saccharin, sad but not without hope. The appreciation for books and the written word are apparent (which was what sold it to me in the first place) and the cast of characters (primary and secondary) felt so strong. I'm not sure this will be one I ever revisit, but I so thoroughly enjoyed listening to it in the moment.

I think I enjoyed this even more than The Dictionary of Lost Words. I was captured by all of the characters and the tales they had to add to the overall narrative.
Despite the novel beginning and ending with the start and end I of WW1, it’s a tale of hope and one that I found to be more uplifting than despondent.
Another well-researched effort and it enhanced my understanding of this time period in England. I really like how Williams give voice to those who have been on the margins of history.
