Following on from the last chapter of the previous novel, this is not so much a sequel as the second half of the same story. Obviously due to this we go straight into the action, as all the set-up was done in the previous novel. The world-hanger is quickly resolved and off we go.

The story of Two-flower and Rincewind is nicely resolved and all the ends ties up. Who would have thought there would be more in the series.

Geeze, second book into the Discworld series and I'm already getting sad - not sure what is going to happen the further I get...

Anywho, Light Fantastic is the direct sequel to the Colour of Magic and correct me anyone if I'm wrong is actually the only example of a proper sequel in the Discworld novels. (Obviously they are all in the same universe and have canon for the characters but these two books are the only ones that need both read to finish the story AFAIK)

In Light Fantastic you can see the more bad-ass side to Pratchett's writing, where The Colour of Magic is more like a crazy romp through the world, Light Fantastic is much more action and plot orientated. The story is mostly focussed on Rincewind's errant 'spell' and mostly puts aside the tourist plot of Colour of Magic.

This is proabably Something better relegated to my blog, but I'm reflecting on rereading this since my youth. Rincewind feels like an almost totally different character. When I was 'little' he seemed like a comically cowardish fool type guy, whereas my current take is that Rincewind is a deeply normal person within the bizarre and dangerous Discworld, yes he's the opposite of MC fantasy tropes but he's not actually quite the incompetent fool that he is though of by his peers.

Next up is Mort I believe one of the first Discworld novels I read!

Several of my Discworld reading friends insisted that I could skip The Color of Magic and The Light Fantastic, but I have to disagree. I love them both. Rincewind is a fantastic character, and the Luggage is delightful. Plus, reading The Light Fantastic will make reading The Last Continent that much more enjoyable. Out of the Rincewind novels, I read The Last Continent first, and, I have to say, I wish I'd followed my instincts and read Rincewind's cycle in order.

I enjoyed this much more than the first, found myself semi-following the plot and laughing out-loud at points. I’m excited to read the next book in the Discworld series and hopefully encounter these characters again.

Just such a fun read! Terry Pratchett really does amazing story telling and this series is just so fun and whimsical. The characters are amazing the story holds your attention and before you know it the cover is closed and you have to run and find the next book in the series.
