Back-up stories are, almost exclusively, annoying trinkets that truncate the events I am *actually* invested in. This volume is a prime example of that view. They take up a little less than half of the volume, and none of them are good. The main story, meanwhile, while not stellar, at least had some interesting moments and great art. Blah.

Every series goes through multiple phases; Some are excellent and inventive, some are drab and listless. These last four volumes of Amazing Spider-Man are the latter. But I was curious to see where the series goes after Secret Wars (see next review), and so, a necessary evil.

We see Peter Parker struggling with the after effects of Spider-Verse in this issue, and once again trying to figure out how to balance his superhero life and his personal life. The story wasn't bad, but it wasn't my favorite. Some of the art in the annual issue is fantastic though; and the last story was funny.

There's also a lot of emphasis here of Peter getting distracted by little things, which isn't entirely new. He's never really able to fully devote himself to work outside of Spider-Man, and this particular issue illustrates that more than most.

The artwork was great. I’m relatively new to reading comics but the action and movement implied with Spiderman is great. Stories were ok. Seems kinda D&D ish with “black cats “luck power” and the equipment peter's friends use to help defeat ghost. Ghost has popped up for me a couple times and although a cool villain he isn’t really evil, just a good henchman. The “return a phone” and “adventures of aunt may” were also the oddball comic book stuff I like.
Having his sidekick chick cover him all the time felt a bit trite. And he is telling us all this stuff not showing.
