This was a lot more philosophical than I expected. It comes across as a book you would read while getting an English degree. The themes about memory, loss, desire, marriage, and everyday life were done well in such a short time. I could have done without the ickiness thrown in at the end… maybe in the re-release they should have changed some of the girls’ ages. Blah

everyone's having affairs, yawn. one of the affairs is with a fishman. was hoping this would be more subversive or weird.

I like her style of writing. It flows effortlessly through the minutia of day-to-day lives. I’m just not a big fan of stories where everyone is having an affair. I guess it perfectly illustrated a typical boring marriage.

It has a pretty interesting premise - Shape of Water-esque, but I want more out of the story. I feel bad for Mrs. Caliban. At the end, she gained her freedom, something she probably didn’t really want and it cost her so much.
The novella tied everything together at the end, but I didn’t feel satisfied. I devoured this book, hoping for more, but at the same time glad the story stopped where it did.
