Tuli aika vahvasti mieleen Elena Ferranten Napoli-sarjan ensimmäiset osat. Vähän rujompana tosin.

this took me way longer to finish than i expected which i think is in part because (1) i'm in a reading slump and also (2) nothing about the story really grabbed me. DOGS OF SUMMER creates this hazy summer vibe as our protagonist, lovingly(?) nicknamed Shit, and her best friend, Isora, meander about their neighborhood and dream of going to the beach. i think the content is definitely graphic and sometimes outright gross considering how much talk of piss and shit there is; however, when you consider that these are two girls who are mostly going about their lives unsupervised except for when Isora is put on a diet, it kind of makes sense. the story examines the dimensions of their young friendship which ranges from a sort of undying & unhealthy devotion on the part of our protagonist and a self-centered dependency on the part of Isora. this is by no means supposed to be a heartwarming portrait of girlhood, but i'm not really sure what i'm taking away from it! i also hated the ending lol

Lovely translation but I don’t think I was able to enjoy it fully as an audiobook.

This made me feel things. And I loved how messy and weird it was and how the friendship was described and how weird bodies are and just bored village vibes in the summer
