Let me preface this by saying: I love Kate Beaton. I love her art style. I love her classic literature, straw feminism and old broadside spoof comics. But in regards to this book, it stops there. Some of the comics were definitely over my head (I admit), but some of them were not even that funny (mostly the small one-offs in between). After reading most of her stuff online, it was weird seeing them all together. I actually got confused in some parts when I thought a new comic strip was actually a continuation of the one on top of it. It also seemed redundant in some parts.
Btw her Heathcliff is an accurate representation of what I imagine him to look like. Bravo!

Love this! Kate Beaton is a historical comic genius. If you get a chance to read any "Hark! A Vagrant" comics, do so. Check out her website, too!

Kate Beaton amuses me greatly. Occasionally, I have no idea what she's referencing though and this is definitely not a book for the ignorant.
