An absolute treat. Loved this book and never quite knew where it was going to take me.
There is a timeless appeal to the idea of being taken under the wing of an eccentric and creative family. I was jealous of Katherine and loved spending time in her life.
A real book for underlining passages and yearning for the past.

I recently came across a mention of this novel as an under-appreciated feminist coming of age classic so picked it up and was impressed without quite being as blown away as Rachel Cusk, who wrote the introduction to this edition. Smart and funny.

This book was one of a list from a South African women's magazine of recommended novels. Had to read it also on the recommendation of a fellow traveller. Love this book. Love Jonathan the perverted but adorable boyfriend. Love the character of uptight Roger the brother. Love everything about it. Trapido is a great writer with a gift for humour.
